Geographical Remit: Site-Based
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off 07:00 – 19:00 and 19:00 – 07:00
Summary of Role
The primary role of the Security Officer is to deliver a professional, proactive, and client-focused security service, providing effective support to both the Security Control Room and the Duty Security Manager.
As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for delivering a consistently high standard of customer service, maintaining a smart and professional appearance at all times, and ensuring the integrity and security of the premises. You will contribute to a safe and secure working environment for all visitors and occupiers, maintaining a strong visible presence that supports a positive workplace culture while mitigating security risks and preventing inappropriate or unauthorised activity. In addition to responding to incidents as they arise, your core objective will be to detect, deter, and protect through a confident, professional, and measured approach.
We are seeking a highly motivated and vigilant Security Officer to join our team at a newly established site. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining robust security operations, safeguarding personnel, assets, and property. This position demands a proactive and detail-oriented individual who is capable of operating effectively within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Main Responsibilities
Operations:
• Familiarise yourself with shift events and attend briefings.
• Maintain high standards of discipline, punctuality, and professionalism at all times.
• Stay adaptable to a dynamic work environment and client needs.
• Be fully conversant with the site layout and current security threats.
• Manage access control and ID verification as required.
• Provide assistance and reassurance to occupiers, visitors, and contractors.
• Respond to planned or significant incidents and provide initial first response.
• Report fabric damage, suspicious activity, system faults, or property damage promptly.
• Follow rotation guidelines but be flexible to operational needs.
• Handle deliveries of varying sizes, from small packages to large, awkward boxes.
• Conduct security checks on people, vehicles, and items when necessary.
• Escalate incidents and accidents in line with established procedures.
• Operate, monitor, and respond to security systems such as CCTV, access control, and fire alarms.
• Conduct internal and external patrols and report any defects.
• Cover operational duties across Reception, Loading Bay, Post Room, and Security Control Room.
• Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
• Take on additional duties as required to support site operations.
Communication:
• Ensure effective communication within the team and escalate issues when necessary.
• Provide high-standard customer service via telephone, written communication, and face-to-face interactions.
• Maintain clear communication with site management, security personnel, and emergency services.
• Act as the first point of contact for security-related enquiries from staff, contractors, and visitors.
Documentation & Procedures:
• Adhere to all policies, procedures, and documentation requirements (Assignment Instructions, Risk Assessments, SOPs).
• Be familiar with emergency evacuation, invacuation, and other procedures.
• Conduct patrols as scheduled and report any security breaches or anomalies.
• Assist in site inductions for new staff and contractors, ensuring they understand security procedures.
• Manage keys, passes, and radios, maintaining accurate records.
Training & Development:
• Stay up to date with emergency response procedures and security training.
• Identify and address any training needs for yourself and the team.
• Ensure continuous self-learning and familiarisation with updated documentation and SOPs.
Health and Safety (H&S):
• Comply with Health & Safety regulations and report any concerns to the DSM.
• Prioritise H&S throughout your duties and ensure PPE (as per British Standards) is issued and maintained.
• Ensure you are fit for duty and have received necessary training before starting shifts.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure safety equipment is in good condition.
• Report health and safety hazards or concerns immediately to the Security Control Room.
Conduct:
• Handle situations calmly, with integrity and professionalism.
• Adapt to changing operational needs, including shift adjustments or additional responsibilities.
• Be flexible and proactive in carrying out Ad-Hoc tasks as required to ensure smooth site operations.
Qualifications & Licenses
Essential
• Valid Frontline SIA License
• Valid First Aid certification
Desirable
• SIA CCTV License
• IOSH Working Safely
• Valid Manual Handling certification
• Valid Banksman certification
• Protect UK - ACT Certifications
